Mayor Erap Estrada visited a road rage victim confined at the Intensive Care Unit of Mary Chiles General Hospital to give his support to the young girl last August 1, 2016. The victim, is a scholar of the said Mayor. The Mayor has extended his appreciation of the hospital staff for taking good care of her.
The victim was outside her home doing her household chores when a stray bullet hit her back. The bullet was allegedly fired by an irate car driver having a roadside argument with a biker nearby. Videos of the said incident has become viral on Youtube and other internet sites. The alleged driver has since been arrested by the police.
Mayor Erap Estrada also comforted her family. In a heartwarming moment, the Mayor pledged his support for the victim and her family and vowed to work for justice on her behalf.
As of press time, the victim of the road rage incident was seen to be improving with a possible discharge in 1 to 2 weeks. “She was brought to Mary Chiles General Hospital just in time after the incident.” Says Dr. Rolando Florendo, the hospital director. “The bullet had missed her spine by about an inch. It hit a major blood vessel and one of her kidneys. We were able to stop the bleeding and stitch up her kidneys just in time. Our surgeons worked very hard and across many hours to save her life.”
Besides the surgeons, the victim was also promptly seen and cared for by the staff of internal medicine doctors from the hospital.
Mary Chiles General Hospital is an accredited Trauma Center by the DOH and offers a 5-year residency program in general surgery with its partner consortium, Pasig City General Hospital. Mary Chiles also has a 3-year residency program in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine.
